In this comprehensive course, you will acquire a wide range of practical skills to confidently work with PDF documents using Acrobat and Acrobat Reader. You will learn how to navigate, customize, and optimize the interface for efficient workflows. Additionally, you will gain expertise in converting files to PDF, merging and rearranging pages, editing text and images, adding comments and annotations, filling out interactive forms, scanning documents, securing sensitive information, automating repetitive tasks, optimizing PDFs for printing, and much more. By the end of the course, you will have a comprehensive toolkit to effectively manage, manipulate, and collaborate on PDF documents, empowering you to streamline your workflow and maximize productivity.
Students will:
- Explore the Acrobat Pro environment and edit a basic document
- Create a page layout and add and format objects.
- Add and edit the text in multiple blocks within a document
- Add color, tints, and gradients to objects in their documents and manage the color settings.
- Apply style formatting to text and objects.
- Modify graphics and add tables to their documents
- Apply transparency formatting and print documents
- Create forms and ebooks
- Add a table of contents and index to a document
Students must have a copy of the Adobe Acrobat Pro software in order to do coursework.
Course Outline:
Lesson 1: Introducing Adobe Acrobat
In this lesson, you will gain essential skills for working with PDF documents using Acrobat and Acrobat Reader. You will learn how to access files and tools through the Home view, select and use tools in toolbars and the Tools pane, customize toolbars, navigate documents using various methods, change document views, and utilize Adobe Acrobat Help for assistance.
Lesson 2: Creating Adobe PDF Files
In this lesson, you will learn practical skills for converting various file types to Adobe PDF. You will discover how to convert a TIFF file to PDF using the Create PDF tool and how to convert files using the Print command in the authoring application. Additionally, you will learn how to merge multiple documents into a single PDF file, explore Adobe PDF settings, reduce the size of PDF files, scan paper documents into Acrobat, convert scanned images to searchable text (Acrobat Pro only), and convert web pages to PDF from Acrobat and web browsers.
Lesson 3: Reading and Working with PDF Files
In this lesson, you will acquire essential skills for working with Adobe PDF documents. You will learn how to navigate a PDF document, adjust scrolling and display settings, search for specific words or phrases, fill out PDF forms, print documents partially or in full, explore accessibility features for users with impairments, add tags and alt text to enhance accessibility, and share PDF documents electronically with others.
Lesson 4: Enhancing PDF Documents
In this lesson, you will develop practical skills for manipulating PDF documents. You will learn how to rearrange pages, rotate and delete pages, insert new pages, edit links and bookmarks, renumber pages, and manage document properties and metadata in PDF files.
Lesson 5: Editing Content in PDF Files
In this lesson, you will acquire practical skills for editing and manipulating content in PDF documents. You will learn how to edit existing text, add new text, insert and replace images, edit images within a PDF, copy text and images, export PDF content to Word, Excel, or PowerPoint files, and understand the concept of redacting sensitive content.
Lesson 6: Using Acrobat on Mobile Devices
In this lesson, you will learn valuable skills for working with PDF files on various devices. You will discover how to access and download Acrobat apps, comment on PDF files using Acrobat Reader app, utilize Adobe's cloud storage for PDF files, edit PDF files in the Acrobat Reader app, complete forms on mobile devices using the Fill & Sign app, and scan documents using the Adobe Scan app.
Lesson 7: Using Acrobat with Microsoft Office Files
In this lesson, you will gain practical skills for converting Microsoft Office files to Adobe PDF format. You will learn how to convert Word files to PDF, including converting headings and styles to bookmarks and comments to PDF notes (Windows only). Additionally, you will discover how to customize Adobe PDF conversion settings (Windows only), convert Excel files to PDF, utilize the Spreadsheet Split view, and convert PowerPoint presentations to PDF.
Lesson 8: Combining Files
In this lesson, you will develop practical skills for combining files into a single PDF document. You will learn how to easily merge files of different types, select specific pages to include in the combined PDF, customize the combined file, and explore the creation of PDF Portfolios (Acrobat Pro only) for a visually enhanced document collection.
Lesson 9: Adding Signatures and Security
In this lesson, you will acquire practical skills for enhancing security and collaboration using Acrobat. You will learn how to use Acrobat in Protected Mode (Windows only), apply password protection to restrict access to files, prevent printing or editing with password protection, utilize Acrobat Sign for digital signatures, send forms in bulk and track their progress, collect payments using Acrobat forms, and explore the creation and usage of digital IDs for secure authentication in Acrobat.
Lesson 10: Using Acrobat in a Review Cycle
In this lesson, you will develop practical skills for document review using Acrobat. You will explore various methods to use Acrobat in the review process, annotate PDF files with commenting and markup tools, manage and respond to document comments, import comments from others, initiate shared reviews for collaborative feedback, and compare different versions of a document (Acrobat Pro only) to track changes effectively.
Lesson 11: Working with Forms in Acrobat
In this lesson, you will acquire practical skills for creating and managing interactive PDF forms. You will learn how to create interactive forms, add form fields such as text boxes, radio buttons, and action buttons, distribute forms to recipients, track the status of forms, collect and compile form data, and validate and calculate form data for efficient processing.
Lesson 12: Using Actions (Acrobat Pro)
In this lesson, using Acrobat Pro, you will develop practical skills for automating tasks using actions. You will learn how to run pre-existing actions, create your own custom actions, create instruction steps within actions, set options to eliminate user input, prompt for user input when needed, and share your actions for efficient collaboration and productivity.
Lesson 13: Using Acrobat in Professional Printing
In this lesson, you will acquire practical skills for producing high-quality print-ready PDF files using Acrobat. You will learn how to create PDF files optimized for high-resolution printing, perform preflight checks for quality and consistency (Acrobat Pro), visualize the impact of transparent objects on pages (Acrobat Pro), configure color management settings, and generate color separations using Acrobat to ensure accurate and professional printing results.
